Justin Schmit Returns for Another Season

by Jake Johnson

Elmira N.Y.- After joining Elmira halfway through last season, Justin Schmit is back for more. Schmit was brought over from the Columbus River Dragons halfway through last season to fill a major void in the Mammoth lineup. With some injuries Schmit filled a massive role down the stretch. He tallied 1 goal and 3 assists in just 17 games played. With that the veteran also had 60 PIMS for the Mammoth.

Schmit also is set to take place in Ice Wars on July 15th in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He is looking to become a two-time champion after winning last season's Ice Wars, being crowned King of the Rink on August 6th. We are excited to support Schmitty as he has been training and leaves in just a few days for the upcoming Ice Wars Competition. We will be cheering him on from Elmira on July 15th.

With a birthday coming up the soon to be 38 southpaw will look to bring his physicality and power to the Elmira lineup. Assistant Coach M.J. Maerkl on the return of Schmit “we love to have a protector on the ice to give our forwards the ability to skate without worry, they can almost play carefree. Justin is also a leader for the locker room and a fan favorite so we are very excited to have him sitting in our locker room this season.”

Another addition to the lineup as the roster continues to fill out before the season begins on October 13th, Schmit now joins a slew of former mammoth players to come back to play at First Arena for the upcoming season. It was a double day with player announcements, so keep up with social media to follow for more.
